After three inland rounds the SuperGP Champions Trophy riders and teams make their way to Cape Town for the next round of the 2016 championship. Killarney Raceway will host round four on 27 and 28 May 2016.
Mathew Scholtz (ETR Nashua Yamaha R1) leads the premier SuperGP class from with Michael White (Consortium Shipping Yamaha R1) and will be looking to extend his advantage at a circuit where he walked away with two podium positions when the tour visited the circuit last year. Defending champion Clint Seller (NeoLife Africa Yamaha R1) has had a very mixed season so far. Three wins, coupled with three DNFs, have left him third on the championship log, 40 points behind Scholtz, and he will be looking to get his title defence back on track.
Capetonian Lance Isaacs (LIR BMW S1000RR) is next on the log. He showed some serious speed last time out at Zwartkops but a jump start penalty in the second race prevented that from being converted into points. Home circuit advantage should see him up with the leaders. Greg Gildenhuys had a slower start to the season than he would have liked but development on the Kreepy Krauly Kawasaki ZX10R saw him take a huge stride forward at Zwartkops and he is now fifth on the championship log. Daryn Upton (Turnskill Engineering BMW S1000RR) and AJ Venter, who scored a podium finish on his debut on the Hygenica Racing Yamaha R1 at Zwartkops, are also likely to be in the mix.
Local rider Ronald Slamet, who missed the last round after an accident in a regional race, will be back in the saddle and looking to use his knowledge of the Killarney circuit to improve his standing.
Isaacs has yet to be beaten in the SuperMasters Interprovincial Challenge and has a 52-point lead over team mate Justin Gillesen. Unfortunately, an accident at Aldo Scribante left Gillesen with a broken ankle and he could miss the remained of the season. Damion Purificati and Etienne Nelson are next on the log.
Steven Odendaal (Petra Yamaha R6) and Adolf Boshoff (NeoLife Africa Yamaha R6) have been the class of the Super600 field this season. After three wins and three second places each they are tied at the top of the championship log 58 points ahead of Blaze Baker (Uncle Andy Suzuki GSXR 600).
Hayden Jonas (Kawasaki ZX-6R), who has shown that he is very quick around Killarney in the Mike Hopkins Superbike series, should be able to keep the front runners honest. Last year Nicole van Aswegen (Women in Motorsport Triumph 675) got the best result of her Super600 career when she ended the second race on the podium. She will be looking to match the feat this visit.
Dylan Barnard (Kawasaki ZX6) had the best result of his season at Zwartkops, two third places moving him ahead of Byron Bester (Hi-Tech Elements Kawasaki ZX6) on the log and into fifth place.
SuperJunior championship leader Brandon Staffen has won four of the six races held so far this year and will be looking to increase that tally on his home circuit. Camron Hackart, Aidan Liebenberg, Tyreece Robert and Dominic Doyle have all challenged for the top step of the podium this season and will be out to stop Staffen.
In addition to the national and interprovincial classes the local Powersport, Clubman and Classic Superbike categories will also be out on track.
As is the case at all SuperGP Champions Trophy events, there is a charity component to the race meeting. The Tin Run Tour helps charities in the area of the circuit with donations of tinned food. Spectators who arrive before 10h00 on race day will be granted free admission to the circuit in exchange for a tin of food.
Practice sessions and qualifying will take place on Friday, 27 May with a full day of racing getting under way at 09h30 on Saturday, 28 May.
